Help out with the Beauty department

Today is the first time I’ve been to our new office! Our company just recently moved from the famous Savile row to across street regents st. The new office its amazing with 2 different floors at a huge building.

Because of the move, the accounts department doesnt really have much documents and work to do, so I got asked to help the beauty department that day. My job was to sort out the new products for the lines that our company carry! I was working at the storage room with this one other worker, then later on, her friends came to help, so we just chatted and i found out one of them is a makeup artist for Jessy J!

They also worked with London Fashion Week’s Makeup and I was shocked that I was working with them for a whole day, chatting like normal people, then i find out at the end of the day that they are successful people in the industry. It was nice when we went for lunch and just talked about the different brands of makeup in Europe and America.

It was nice to not only see the culture difference between these two countries but also the fashion aspect and the market as well.

Internship

My worksite is actually being very specific about being there on time, but if I finish my work earlier or if there’s nothing else they have me there to do, I could get off early, which I feel that is the same with US work places. As well as specific directions on my work, my supervisor have been telling me what I need to do and how I did on my work every day. The differences that I found at my work site was that people tend to talk about everything out loud, versus in the U.S. people tend to make sure not everyone in the office would hear it. British worksite it is a lot more relaxed than the American offices, they tend to include everyone in the conversation. And I did noticed how people at the work site compliant a lot about their job, but at the same time, they love it, and they would do a very good job at it at the end of the day. Everyone take their job very seriously, they are all very responsible for their work.  They do tend to be more egalitarian, where the boss is not like what it is in the states, everyone have a say to the projects or situations. That’s all I observed so far, I cant wait to find out more.

My 21st birthday in London

After getting back from Paris and Hasselt for my 2 day celebration, i got back home (my apartment in London) and saw my roommate Audrey decorated my door with all birthday stuff.

Even thou the drinking age in Europe is 18, I didnt feel that much spacial about my birthday weekend, coming back and seeing balloons made me very happy!

I guess this is the first time im in London that I am ACTUALLY homesick. I wish i was at home celebrating it with my friends and family. This was more depressing than Chinese new year since I was never home for it anyways. But the 21st birthday is such a big event in US culture that i couldnt be with all of my close friends was kind of sad.

But going to Clubs in London is another thing! it was weird telling people that i was celebrating my 21st at the clubs. But they were all very familiar with the US drinking age.  But they werent so sure about it until talking to us and seeing that we are taking it seriously. also getting back from the club is different since taxi is way too expensive to take.  But public transportation is also super convenience in London considering the Tube (subway) runs every 2 min between stops and they have 24 hr buses that runs every 15min after mitnit. We took the taxi home because we couldn’t figure out a way back home from taking the buses yet. But one day we will. After we get use to the roads in London.

My Work

I am working in both the accounts as well as the PR departments. Within the accts team, I did all the different client’s invoices for the past few months, as well as the expenses of employees that travel around the world to attend events and meetings. I was surprised how my director trust me enough that she is letting me doing all the calculation and invoices, as well as handling with cash, I did not expect to have this much responsibility within the first week. I also worked with the Fashion department one day, and the work environment was totally different than the accounts department, they are more laid back with more entertainments. I got to see the new collection of a lot of different brands as well as organizing them. Also got to pack and send out outfits to different countries and different magazines for the celebrities to borrow for events or photo shoots. I was surprised how much work they have per day, but they work in a very different way, they are very efficient, I realized that they could do their work very fast and joke around the office at the same time. It is defiantly not what US offices are like. I’m glad that I have so much responsibility, and I felt like I’m not an intern, I felt like I am a actual employee there. Hopefully I can get more work later on.
